Lady Gaga is not known for being shy when it comes to showcasing new ways of promoting her wildly and outlandishly packaged ideas, such as the products shown off as a result of her partnership with Polaroid a few months ago. Now, Zynga has come out and announced it’s going to give the Gaga-go-round a whirl. Zynga, though, is not new to partnerships with music industry heavy-hitters, having partnered with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre in the past.
For this partnership, Zynga is promoting Gaga’s new album, “Born This Way,” slated for a May 23 launch. Zynga’s FarmVille fans will be able to visit GagaVille, which will, of course, be themed after Lady Gaga’s distinctive style. The farm will have a load of new in-game items, such as sheep on motorcycles, crystals, unicorns, and other offbeat objects. GagaVille visitors will also get exclusive access to songs from the album prior to going live.
Beyond FarmVille, the promotion extends throughout Zynga’s gaming ecosystem. Zynga’s RewardVille players can renew their reward points to pick up Gaga-inspired virtual goods from many of Zynga’s social games. Words With Friends will sponsor a contest, and a $35 Zynga game card from Best Buy will give players access to the album for free, along with exclusive FarmVille content.
Even as the social gaming space becomes more and more congested with rising star developers, Zynga still has more than enough muscle to pull in a mass market phenomenon like Lady Gaga and get her on a digital tractor in a virtual farm field — and maybe bring a huge audience with her.
