Zynga continues its binge of acquiring promising social gaming start-ups , picking up Waltham, Massachusetts-based Floodgate Entertainment. In fact, this acquisition is Zynga’s 10th in 10 months. In this instance, Zynga has picked up the company’s talent but not the corporation itself. Zynga has racked up an impressive $850 million in revenue in 2010, which gives the company plenty of liquid assets to convert into strategically positioned development houses with their respective talent pools.
Floodgate has a resume of creating games across the casual, mobile, and PC markets. Floodgate founder Paul Neurath, who has two decades of game industry experience, will be integrated into the social gaming giant as a creative director.
Zynga’s also acquired “XPD in Beijing, Challenge Games in Austin, Unoh Games in Tokyo, Conduit Labs in Boston, Dextrose AG in Frankfurt, Bonfire Studios in Dallas, Newtoy in McKinney, Texas; the Flock development team, and Area/Code in New York.”
