Blizzard Entertainment COO Paul Sims confirmed the game development giant’s next online game project, previously codenamed Titan, has reached an advanced stage of development. A leaked memo had the rollout date for this unnamed massively multiplayer online game pegged for Q4 2013. In spite of a launch date that adds up to about 2 and a half years away from projected launch, the game is even playable, according to Sims in an interview with Gamasutra.
‘”We’re playing it already. It is a total ball to play,” he said. “We think that the reach of that product is greater than anything that we’ve done before. We’re very excited about that. I believe that it’s the type of game that will have a very long life, much like World of Warcraft has.”‘
In fact, Sims hopes that this new MMOG, which is rumored to be equipped with a first-person viewpoint, will not abruptly replace World of Warcraft but eclipse it over time. He feels that, 10, 15, even 20 years from now, this new MMOG will still be going strong and set a new benchmark for longetivity and playability.
So far, news and rumors about this project have been sketchy and occasional at best. In 2007, Blizzard confirmed the development of its next MMOG, and in 2009, it admitted it had used original intellectual property for this project.
