What if going online to play a game offered gamers more than just the chance to play with friends and maybe even bragging rights at the top of a leaderboard? What if it could actually earn the gamer points that can be converted into gift cards for use at major retail stores? It’s not just a rhetorical possibility; it will soon be a a reality. GoSave.com will soon permit gamers to earn real-world rewards through earning points by playing or shopping through affiliated stores, explains Dane McLeod, the creator of the platform.
The Los Angeles-based company is so far inviting people to sign up via e-mail, so there will be a ready pool of people to try out out the service when it goes live. So far, according to the company, women 35 years and older are expressing the greatest amount of interest in the company. This statistic appears to be due to the shaky economy, and so there are participants who are looking for practical value as much as they might be looking for play time online.
Diverse consumer-facing companies such as Target, J.C. Penney, Toys R Us, Macy’s, Men’s Warehouse, Subway, Hometown Buffet and El Pollo Loco are among some of the participating retailers. There’s no word yet which games will be partnering with GoSave.
While recognizing the need for incentivizing relaxation time with real-world benefits, company founder McLeod admits GoSave is a “simple and stupid idea” but one that works.
